Jesus Ministry, Crucifixion and Resurrection. Mankind was in a state of spiritual disarray due to the sin committed in the Garden of Eden by both Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1-24). They disobeyed the Lord and ate from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. As a result sin entered the world and disrupted the perfect communion between God and man. The one solution that could redeem mankind was to have the Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ enter this world and offer Himself as the one and only sacrifice. His blood, which was shed on Golgotha, was the price that was paid to redeem us and forever reunite mankind with the Lord. Subsequently, reunion with the Lord is contingent upon accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior and entering the family of God.
Christ’s mission/ministry was to fulfill the scriptures regarding His coming and to spread the word about the Kingdom of Heaven and salvation. He went from town to town healing the sick, feeding the hungry and connecting with people on a different level, not yet done in the past.
Here is an example of our Lord’s compassion in Matthew 14:14-21, it states:
It says, 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” 16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. 18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
His ministry lasted for three years and came to an end in Jerusalem where He was unjustly arrested, tried and condemned to death on the cross. Although His ministry lasted only three short years, Christ’s purpose was to establish His teachings, select his disciples and to be the sacrificial lamb for the sins of mankind.
At that time, Israel was governed by Rome; but the priests and other influential religious groups such as, the Pharisees and Sadducees controlled the religious affairs of the Jews. Christ exposed their faults publicly and criticized their jaded teachings of the Old Testament. In fear of losing power by Christ’s growing popularity, they decided to hand Christ over to the Romans. The Roman governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate ordered his crucifixion. The Jewish religious leaders didn’t understand that His crucifixion and resurrection was prophesied in the Old Testament and was fulfilled by the Him. He resurrected on the third day and made an appearance to His disciples. As mentioned above, His purpose was for this specific reason to be the sacrificial lamb for the atonement of mankind’s sins.
