Lenten is the time of the year where Christians around the world dedicate themselves to meditation and preparation for Easter.  Some give up food, while others abstain from various other activities.  No matter what is done, this season is something that is good to observe even though it’s not stated in the New Testament.  It’s a tradition that has come from the early Church meant to prepare Christians for Easter – 40 days in advance.  It imitates the Lord’s 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, and depending on the extent you observe the spiritual exercise, its effect is in sense a reset of one’s faith to refocus on Christ.

Any opportunity to refocus ourselves on Jesus is a great tradition indeed.  If you are practicing Lenten this year, please make sure you truly commit to a period of time where you focus on Jesus, not on the act itself.  Remember folks, this is not a diet program, rather a means to reconnect with the Lord and remember what He has done for us on the cross.  We deny our bodies of our regular nourishment and comforts in order to remember Christ in His suffering.  At Illuminating Faith we pray that the Lord bless you and keep you this Lenten season and may you truly refocus on Christ and live in the Word daily.  AMEN
